Structural damage and remediation assessment services apply to structures generally, including buildings, foundations, retaining walls and most other structural forms. Most commonly assessed construction materials are concrete and steel.
Common structural issues addressed include actual structural failure/collapse, foundation settlement, concrete 'cancer' (reinforcement corrosion), corrosion of steel framing, uncontrolled water flow around and under structures, fire damage, unauthorised structural alterations and non-compliance with approved engineering design during construction.
Site inspections will, in the first instance, be visual inspections. Should more intensive, non-visual inspections be required, or testing of material samples, 3rd party specialist consultants will be required for such work.
In cases where an engineering analysis of the structure is required to more accurately assess the structure and proposed remediation solutions, advanced FEA (Finite Element Anlysis) methods and non-linear concrete analysis proceedures are used.
Structural condition reports are prepared, to suit the purpose of the assessment.
Where required, preparation of work scopes and specifications can be prepared for the completion by 3rd party consultants of detailed engineering plans.
Expert Opinion reports are prepared, as required.
Resolution of building disputes may require detailed technical discussion with an opposing expert, possibly extending to an experts' conclave. Successful outcomes here depend on a sound understanding of the engineering principles involved and an authoritative prosecution of the engineering facts.
